Classic Cask

Jim Murray:

(from Whiskeymag.com)

Nose
Massively bourbony; a roasty, slightly nutty-sweet, cocoa-dry aroma. Fascinating sub- strata of bamboo shoots and malt. Big and complex.
Palate
Aged from the off: very dry oaky tones and roast malt. Very chewy.
Finish
Sweetens drastically with toffee-vanilla and some fading coffee on the long, tapering finish.
Comment
An enormous whisky which hangs together impressively for its great age.

;

The famed Sazerac Coffee House was founded in 1850 at 13 Exchange Alley, New Orleans, Louisiana. Although styled a "Coffee House", it was, in fact, a saloon. The Sazerac Coffee House gained fame as the home of the Sazerac, "America's First Cocktail."

The family-owned Sazerac Company has since become the proud owner of the original Kentucky distillery that supplied that rye whiskey to the Sazerac Coffee Housee, and is, after a 110-year absence, pleased to bring you Sazerac 18 Year Old Rye Whiskey. Sazerac 18 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey demonstrates a sophistication and style that is second to none. A hearty whiskey with a strong body, a mellow spice and a dry sweetness that dances on the tongue, it is the only 18 year old whiskey worthy of the Sazerac name.

Dave Broom:

(from Whiskeymag.com)

Nose
Perfumed, lemon cooked fruits. Fairly lean with (in time) cocoa/coffee cake, winey notes. Whiff of cigar smoke as well.
Palate
Attractive if slightly (surprisingly) austere. The mid-palate has lovely concentrated jammy fruits alongside some good spicy rye.
Finish
Softens and begins to mellow.
Comment
Quite a mouthful which takes no prisoners
